11 Alternative Ways to Celebrate Christmas

11 Alternative Ways to Celebrate Christmas

This year has been full of so many changes and cancelations. Many places aren’t having their normal Christmas celebrations this year or have made significant changes to them. This is a tough time for many and safety is a huge factor. Even though Christmas may be looking a little different then usual, it is not canceled. If you’re looking for creative ways to have fun this Christmas season and still celebrate, you can! Here are some fun alternative ways you can still celebrate Christmas this year.

1. Drive Around Looking at Christmas Lights

This is one of my favorite things to do at Christmas time and one of our regular family traditions. During this time while a lot is shut down and people are distancing, it’s the perfect family activity to do to enjoy the Christmas season.

2. Christmas Party at Home

Just because other places may not be having big Christmas parties doesn’t mean your family can’t have a party. Create your own little Christmas party at home with your kids and celebrate this season.

3. Christmas Photoshoot

You can still get dressed up even if you have nowhere to go. Don’t let those Christmas dresses go to waste! Dress up and have a Christmas photoshoot.

4. Christmas Movie Marathon

This is my favorite Christmas tradition! I’m all about all the Hallmark and Christmas movies at this time of year. Cozy up with your loved ones and have a Christmas movie marathon. It’s the perfect night in during the holidays.

5. Virtual Party

If you can’t be with extended family and friends in person this year, have no fear you can still connect and have a virtual party with them! It’s the perfect solution if you are separated by distance.

6. Christmas Scavenger Hunt

Create a Christmas scavenger hunt of things to find within your home or out and about on a drive. You could also do a scavenger hunt by playing “I Spy” with little ones. You could find Christmas items on display outside in neighborhoods.

7. Drive-thru Christmas Activities

Find some drive-thru Christmas options near you to enjoy. Many cities have light festivals, displays, and live nativity sets. These are fun Christmas activities you can enjoy from your own car.

8. Carols Around the Fire

Can’t go caroling this year? Well, you can still spread Christmas cheer by singing carols around a fire. Make a bonfire or fireplace fire at home and sing with your family.

9. Take a Carriage Ride

Go on a horse-drawn carriage ride. It’s fun and typically just your family so there won’t be a huge crowd. You can enjoy a stroll through a festive neighborhood while spending time with your family.

10. Order Take Out

If you aren’t having a big feast or just don’t want to cook this year order some take-out. Try something different, take a break from cooking duties, and support a local business that may need the help this season.

11. Have a Christmas Competition

There are so many fun Christmas activities to enjoy every year. Try taking one and turning it into a competition. It can be a fun way to put a twist on a regular activity and make it a game. See who can make the best gingerbread house, have a judge who picks the best cookie decorations, or see who can make the most paper snowflakes in a set time.

Even if Christmas looks a little different this year, you can still have all the same festive vibes. It’s not how you celebrate but who you celebrate with this year that matters. Make fun new memories you’ll remember forever. Merry Christmas!
