Halloween Bucket List Activities

Halloween Bucket List Activities

I’m continuing my bucket list tradition with the first holiday to kick off the long holiday season: Halloween. I’m not huge on this holiday or scary things in general, but I do enjoy making it fun for my kids. There are quite a few simple and fun things you can do to celebrate Halloween and get into the spooky spirit. So get your family together and enjoy checking off these items!

Decorate for Halloween

Break out the pumpkin and Halloween décor. Think skeletons, jack-o-lanterns, and spiderwebs. Change out your garden flag and door wreath. Switch your mantle décor to Halloween items and put out the spooky hand towels.

Pick Out a Pumpkin

You can’t have Halloween without a pumpkin. Visit a pumpkin patch or pick a pumpkin up locally.

Make a Halloween Craft

Craft time is always a great activity to do something new. Search Pinterest and find some fun Halloween DIY crafts to make.

Paint a Pumpkin

This is one of my faves! Pick out some little pumpkins and paint away. We love coming up with fun designs and having a family pumpkin paint day.

Carve a Pumpkin

In our house, I usually pick out a design and my hubby is the one who does the actual carving. But it is still a fun activity to spend time together as a family and get cute fall decor afterward.

Pick Halloween Costumes

I love doing family group themes for costumes. Now that my kids are getting older they love being involved with picking out costumes.

Have a Halloween Movie Marathon

Break out the popcorn, cider, cozy up with your favorite blanket, pick out your favorite Halloween movies, and have a marathon. You could do a family-friendly one with the kids or have a super scary marathon after the kids are in bed.

Look at Halloween Decorations

Take a little drive around to look at the houses and neighborhoods that are decorated for Halloween. It’s like a mini road trip. I love looking at houses decorated during Christmas, and while not as many go all out for Halloween, you can still find some and make a fun family night out of it.

Make a Halloween Treat

For those who love pumpkin-flavored items, this is your season! For those, like me, who aren’t pumpkin fans there are so many other options out there to make a tasty Halloween-themed treat. My personal favorite is mixing candy corn with dry roasted peanuts. I make a big bowl of it every year. You could also make some mummy hotdogs or Halloween cookies.

Tell Spooky Stories

Build a campfire or snuggle up on the couch and tell spooky stories. They don’t have to be super scary either. My daughter is obsessed with making up her own “spooky” stories and has started telling them to us before bed. It’s so fun listening to what she comes up with.

Do a Costume Photoshoot

Pick out your costumes like usual, get all dressed up, and have a little costume photo shoot. I always love taking photos of my family all dressed up for Halloween and this year is no different.

Go to a Halloween Party

Dress up in your costumes and go to a Halloween party with family/friends. Or you could host your own.

Go Trick or Treating

There are so many options for Trick or Treating. You could go door to door, do a drive-thru, truck or treat, or even hand out candy at your house.
