Holiday Care Package Theme Ideas
Christmas is all about family and traditions but some families don’t have all members to celebrate with in person. Whether you have a loved one deployed, away at school, living in another state, or just aren’t able to be together in person this year you can still spread holiday cheer.
The first Christmas my husband and I spent as a couple, he was deployed. I sent him care packages each month with a different theme. The most fun to create were the holiday boxes. Everyone wants to be reminded of home when they’re away during the holidays and there is no better way to do that than by sending a themed care package. Here are some of the best holiday theme ideas I could think of for care package themes.
The Grinch
You could put all kinds of Christmas décor, treats, and knickknacks in a box and roll with the theme “The Grinch stole Christmas and brought it to you”. Your loved one can decorate their space with the items.
Frozen
You could do some fake snow and an Olaf theme or think sparkly for ice. If your loved one is deployed think “Dear deployment, let him go”.
Elf
Who doesn’t love “Elf”? There are so many well-known sayings from the movie you could use for a theme. Think “You have such a pretty face you should be on a Christmas card” to cheer someone up and send a self-care or beauty package. “I like to stick to the 4 main food groups” for a box full of yummy sugary sweets. “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” for that music lover in your family or to do a Christmas music-themed box. And/or “does someone need a hug?” for a general spreading some love box.
Christmas Songs
The theme options are endless for Christmas songs. You could do “Baby it’s Cold Outside”, “Santa Baby”, “Baby, Please Come Home”, “Let it Snow”, “Jingle Bells”, “Ice, Ice Baby”, or “All I Want for Christmas is You”. You can incorporate decorations and treats that go along with whichever song you choose.
Christmas Sayings
Just like with songs there are many great Christmas sayings that can create great theme boxes. Think “Merry & Bright”, “Christmas wishes & mistletoe kisses” or “Kiss me under the mistletoe”.
Elf on a Shelf
Elf on a Shelf is huge these days. Why not make a fun care package by including an elf and his crazy shenanigans in the box for the theme?
Snow
For a snowy theme think “I miss you snow much”, “If kisses were snowflakes I’d send you a blizzard”, or a simple snowflakes theme. You could send fake snow or snowballs for a snowball fight.
Christmas Tree in a Box
This is one of my favorite theme ideas. You could create a Christmas tree in the box theme by including a mini tree, mini ornaments, mini decorations for the tree, and maybe even some little presents to go under it.
Christmas Sweets Box
You could send some of the best Christmas sweets in a box for a package. Think sugar cookies, gingerbread, candy canes, peppermint bark, and hot chocolate.
Snowman in a Box
You could send along some fake snow and little items for decorating a snowman like a hat, scarf, carrot nose, etc. It could be a fun a creative idea to roll with.
Advent Box
You could send a store-bought or homemade advent calendar/box with the advent days/activities already included for some fun. It will also add some mystery to what your loved one will find for each day.
Hallmark Box
Is it even Christmas without Hallmark? You can send a Hallmark specific themed box complete with Hallmark Christmas movies, apparel, tree ornaments, and a card. I for one would absolutely love to get a box like this!
12 Dates of Christmas
I actually got this idea from a present my mom gave my dad last year for Christmas. Create an envelope for each month of the year with a date night idea for each month. You only open the envelope during the correlating month for the following year. You could also do a 12 dates idea by writing a letter for 12 days leading up to Christmas and talk about your favorite dates of the past or include a coupon for a redeemable date once you are together in person again.
New Years
If you want to do a New Years’ box as well as a Christmas box go for it! You could fill it with candy, party favors, and New Year headbands or glasses. For specific themes think “Open it at midnight”, “A kiss for midnight with Hersey kisses”, or “3, 2, 1…Happy new year”.
Let me know in the comments below if you have any other themes you would add. Happy creating!
